El Embajador Alberto Guani junto al Presidente de Bangladesh expresan su interés en fortalecer las relaciones mediante la ampliación del comercio entre ambos países.
Non-resident ambassador of Uruguay to Bangladesh Alberto A Guani on Wednesday stressed strengthening people-to-people relations to expand trade and commerce between the two countries gradually in the coming days.
The diplomat of the Latin American country made the remark while talking to reporters at a reception organised by the honorary consul of Uruguay in Bangladesh Mostafa Quamrus Sobhan at the Sonargaon Hotel in the capital Dhaka.
The ambassador said that Uruguay had earlier conveyed its interest to sign an agreement on mutual avoidance of double taxation with Bangladesh to attract investments from the businesses of Uruguay.
He also suggested that Bangladesh should go for signing a free trade agreement with the MERCOSUR, a trade bloc of the South American countries Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Guani said that Bangladesh has made significant economic progress in past few decades, but the bilateral trade between the two countries remained below the potential.
Sobhan said that his mission would be strengthening the bond between Bangladesh and Uruguay through trade and cultural exchanges.
According to the government data, Bangladesh’s exports to the Uruguay in the financial year 2022-23 was $50.68 million while the imports from Uruguay stood at $54.13 million in the period.
